Platform
- Increase involvement of under-represented community members, such as but not limited to, Native Americans, Spanish speaking residents, teens, and community elders.
- Transportation
- Big Blue Bus
- The new route changes have left a lot of people upset, both the residents who relied on the original routes and also the residents who are disturbed by the new routes. It seems no one is really happy with the changes. Amendments to these routes are needed.
- Encourage walkability and facilitate paths & spaces for bike use
- Vertical parking: I support vertical parking in locations where it is an ideal location will not threaten the vibe and “chi” of the neighborhood
- Homeless Issues
- Bathrooms need to be open: the bathrooms have been closed for many years and people are outraged when a homeless person has to relieve themselves in the alley or such places yet many oppose access to actual bathrooms. This hypocrisy must end. Not only is this a homeless issue but many people I’ve spoken with indicate that these unfavorable instances are perpetrated by patrons of local establishments who have no access to a restroom and not the homeless. Everyone including business patrons deserve access to a restroom
- Emergency Shelter: Venice has the third highest concentration of homeless folks in the City after Downtown and Hollywood. We also are the only part of the city that does not have an emergency shelter. If we are truly trying to model other effective homeless solution programs, then this is a no-brainer.
- DMH- in addition to not having an emergency shelter we also do not have a Department of Mental Health office in Venice, this also needs to be remedied.
- Westminster Homeless Storage
- I am for the storage space but a more thorough community process is needed. Many residents have legitimate concerns over it’s proximity to the elementary school and it is important to validate and address concerns and dispell the abundance of fear mongering misinformation that is out there. Talking with county and city caseworkers they feel it very beneficial to have this location where they can effectively connect with and uplift said population. We must also ensure that if implemented that it is done in the best way possible including effective accounting of its efficiency and effectiveness.
- Education
- Ethnic Studies: benefits all people and has proven to significantly decrease droput rates and facilitate college entrance for those most prone to drop out of high school/
- There is no “old” or “new” Venice. There is only one VENICE. I am committed to healing and building bridges between new and traditional residents.
